I have
been playing music since 1968. My main instrument
is the
guitar, although I do play bass guitar and to a certain extent
I
play keyboards. Throughout my life I have played several other
instruments as well, but not by any means proficient. Some of these
include the Dulcimer, Harmonica, Trumpet, Mandolin and drums.
I enjoyed the club scene in my hometown of Memphis for several
years before moving to Missouri in 1998 and opening a small
power tool and equipment repair shop and setting aside my guitar.
The end of 2005, I began picking my guitar back up and realized
just how much I missed playing. I have been working part-time
in my home studio recording since picking my guitar back up.
Admittedly, I am a little different than most guitarists you would
find. I was born with only 2 fingers on my fretboard hand. I only
expose this fact in hopes that it will intrigue people to check out
my music. One of the things I miss most from playing the clubs
is the reaction that I got from people seeing and hearing me play
for the first time. Since they normally expect to see me play a few
simple chords or pick a few notes, the reaction was normally the
need to pick their jaw up from the floor.
Although I do not play any of his music, my main influence to play
the guitar was the legendary Django Reinhart. When people would
tell me "forget it, you'll never be able to play", I would always
reflect
on Django and the fact that he only had the use of 2 of his fingers
as the result of an accident, and keep pushing myself. Almost everyone
is an influence on me, but some of the musicians that I enjoy playing
or
just listening to are David Gilmore, Stevie Ray Vaughan, Toni Iommi,
Jimmy Page, Ted Turner and Andy Powell, Eric Clapton, Jimi Hendrix,
Buddy Guy, Carlos Santana, Steve Vai, Billy Gibbons, etc, etc....
If I can play, then most anyone can as long as you have the desire and
the willingness to work hard.
